Mahindra Rise Challenge 2026 · Solo Entry · 8 Campuses Only
Most competitions hand you a trophy. This one hands you a Thar.
The Mahindra Rise Challenge is not a normal case competition. There is no team to hide behind, no eight member roster splitting the work, and no long list of eligible campuses. It is a solo contest, open to first year MBA students from eight of India's most competitive B-Schools, and it exists for one reason. Mahindra uses it to find the people it wants in its Strategy and Leadership pipeline, the same rotational track that made TAS legendary at Tata. Past editions have ended with winners literally driving away in a Mahindra Thar. This is the kind of competition you plan your term around.
Why this matters
Very few Indian conglomerates run a genuine group wide leadership rotation. Tata has TAS. Aditya Birla has its group programs. Mahindra has its Strategy and Leadership track, and the Rise Challenge is one of the cleanest doors into it. You are competing solo against a small, filtered pool from eight campuses, which means your individual thinking gets seen by group leadership without being averaged out by a team.
What is on the table
The car is real, and it is not the biggest prize
Let us start with the part everybody talks about. In the 2024 edition, Mahindra put two Thars on the line, and both national winners took one home. Anand Mahindra himself announced the challenge and called it a treasure hunt, which tells you how the group positions this contest internally. Earlier editions have carried prize pools worth lakhs along with pre-placement interviews, and finalists have been flown out for grand finale experiences, including a Jaisalmer leg for the 2025 cohort.
Now the part that actually changes your career. Top performers are considered for Mahindra's Strategy and Leadership roles. That is a rotational path across the group, which spans automotive, farm equipment, financial services, hospitality, real estate, technology, and renewable energy. You are not applying to one function at one company. You are applying to a portfolio.
🚙
The headline reward
Past editions have awarded a Mahindra Thar to national winners, with two Thars given away in the 2024 edition alone. Earlier seasons have also featured a motorcycle and prize pools worth lakhs.
🧭
The real reward
Consideration for Mahindra's Strategy and Leadership roles, a TAS style rotation across group businesses rather than a single function posting.

Solo means the workload does not get split
In a team competition you can cover for a weak research week. Here you cannot. Every hour of secondary research, every slide, every number and every rehearsal is yours. Students who treat this like a side quest get filtered out at the campus round. Block calendar time the day you register.
What past editions tell us
The format has evolved, and the pattern is clear
Mahindra has run this challenge in several shapes. The 2022 edition on Unstop was an individual participation contest with pre-placement interviews and prizes worth around ₹2.5 lakhs, built as an eight hour virtual experience that tested students from thirteen B-Schools across multiple skill sets. Round names like The Dark Knight tested how deeply participants actually knew the Mahindra brand portfolio.
The 2024 edition scaled it up. Mahindra reported 480 entries, 6 campuses, 7 jury members, 12 finalists and 2 winners, and the two winners drove away in Thars. The 2025 edition ran campus rounds across 8 campuses, with group leaders personally immersing students into Mahindra's businesses before the presentations, then a national jury round and a grand finale, with winners from SPJIMR and IIM Ahmedabad among the names celebrated.
The pattern worth internalising
Across every edition, two things repeat. First, brand and portfolio knowledge is tested early. Whether it is a quiz style filter or a campus round, students who cannot speak fluently about Mahindra's businesses get cut before their strategy skills ever matter.
Second, the finale is a leadership conversation, not a presentation contest. Finalists present to senior group executives who ask direct questions about feasibility, capital, and fit with the group's Rise philosophy. Polish does not save a weak idea in that room.
How the journey usually runs
The four stages you should plan for
Exact stage names and dates for 2026 will be confirmed on the official site, but past editions have consistently followed this shape. Plan against it now and adjust when the official timeline drops.
1
Stage One
Registration and the knowledge filter
You register solo on the official Rise Challenge portal. Early rounds in past editions have leaned heavily on Mahindra brand and business knowledge, delivered as a timed quiz or a screening submission.
Tip: spend one focused evening on Mahindra's annual report and the group website before this round. Know the seven federations, the flagship products, the recent acquisitions, and the Rise philosophy in your own words. Past participants who treated this as a formality lost the competition before it started.
2
Stage Two
The idea or case submission
You submit an individual response to a business problem or an entrepreneurial idea aligned with a Mahindra business. Submissions are typically short and slide limited, which rewards sharp framing over volume.
Tip: pick one federation and go deep rather than proposing something generic for the whole group. An idea that names the business unit, the customer, the revenue model and the first year investment reads far more credible than a broad theme.
3
Stage Three
The campus round
Mahindra leaders visit or connect with each eligible campus. Shortlisted students present in person, and the group uses the visit to immerse students in its businesses before evaluating them.
Tip: attend everything Mahindra runs on your campus, including the pre round sessions. In past editions, students who asked sharp questions during the immersion were already on the leadership team's radar when they walked in to present.
4
Stage Four
The national jury round and grand finale
A small set of national finalists, roughly a dozen in past editions, present to a jury of Mahindra's senior most leaders. This is where the Thar, the recognition, and the leadership track consideration are decided.
Tip: rehearse the questions, not the script. Finalists report that the jury spends more time interrogating assumptions and execution risk than admiring the slides. Have a clear answer for what you would do with the first one crore and the first six months.
Who this is built for
Eight campuses, first years only
The eligibility list is deliberately tight. That is good news if you are on it, because the competitor pool is a fraction of what an open competition attracts. It also means the standard is high, and everyone entering has similar credentials. Differentiation comes from depth, not from your CV.

How to win
Six moves that get you to the finale
1
Learn the group before you learn the case
Mahindra spans auto, farm equipment, Mahindra Finance, Tech Mahindra, Club Mahindra, Mahindra Lifespaces, Mahindra Logistics and the renewables businesses. Build a one page map of the federations, their leaders, and their current strategic priorities. Every round rewards this.
2
Anchor your idea in Rise
Rise is not decoration, it is the group's stated philosophy of accepting no limits, thinking alternatively and driving positive change. Judges consistently ask how an idea fits the Mahindra way. Make that link explicit in your opening, not as an afterthought slide.
3
Play the solo format to your advantage
Without a team, your voice is undiluted. Choose a point of view and defend it hard. Solo entries that hedge across three options look weaker than one confident recommendation with clearly stated trade-offs.
4
Bring India ground truth, not desk research
Mahindra sells tractors in Nagpur and SUVs in Nashik. Talk to a dealer, a farmer, a fleet operator or a Club Mahindra member. Two real conversations quoted in your submission beat ten pages of report screenshots.
5
Cost it out like an owner
Capital required, payback period, the risk that kills the idea, and how you would pilot it in one state before scaling. Group leaders are P and L people. An idea without numbers is a thought, not a proposal.
6
Treat the finale as a job interview
The leadership track consideration is decided by how you handle the room, not just the deck. Be crisp, take pushback well, and never bluff a number. Finalists who admit an assumption is soft and explain how they would test it come across stronger than those who defend everything.
