The L'Oréal Edge  ·  First Edition  ·  Four Tracks

No deck. No quiz. Just three minutes of you on camera, and the world's largest beauty company watching.

The first edition of The L'Oréal Edge is live, and the format is unlike almost every other campus competition running this season. There is no elimination quiz, no fifteen slide submission, no case document to hide behind. Round one is a three minute video pitch featuring every member of your team. What follows is a creative CV, a psychometric assessment and a campus round in front of L'Oréal leadership, where the pre placement interviews are decided. Four tracks, three member teams, and a first year cohort competing for a summer internship that pays a stipend of two lakh rupees a month.

This is not L'Oréal Brandstorm. Brandstorm is the global flagship innovation competition that launches later this year, with a fully sponsored trip to the Global Finals in Paris for winning teams. The Edge is a separate India campus programme with its own tracks and its own PPI route. Both are worth doing. Our Spotlight Session on Brandstorm from May 2026 is already in the drive folder, and watching it before you attempt the Edge is the cheapest hour of preparation available to you.

A summer internship, and a two lakh a month stipend

Top performers in The L'Oréal Edge can earn a Pre-Placement Interview for a summer internship at L'Oréal, with a stipend of two lakh rupees a month. The PPIs are awarded on performance in the Campus Round, which means the decision is made in a room, in front of a leadership panel, not on a submission portal. Winning teams and campus finalists both stand a chance, and L'Oréal merchandise goes to the people who get that far.

Say the number out loud once and then set it aside, because the number is not the reason to enter. L'Oréal runs one of the most watched campus engagement programmes in India, and its alumni network across FMCG and beauty is dense. A campus round performance in front of that leadership panel is a professional impression that outlives this season regardless of whether your team lifts anything.

    👥
    Team size
Teams of 3 members across every track.
    🎓
    Who can enter
First year students in full time two year MBA and PGDM programmes, Batch of 2026-28, from the eligible campuses. Eligibility differs by track, so read the listing for the track you want before you build a team.
    🎥
    Round one
A three minute video pitch featuring all three members, carrying the problem, the insight, the solution and the expected business impact.
    🤝
    The outcome
PPI opportunities for a summer internship, awarded on Campus Round performance, plus exclusive L'Oréal merchandise.

    Four tracks, four different auditions

The Edge is not one competition with themes. Each track is a separate registration with its own listing, its own eligibility fine print and its own leadership panel at the campus round. You are effectively auditioning for a function, so pick the one where you can already point to work you have done rather than the one that sounds most glamorous on a CV.

    Sales & Marketing Track
    The brief
Real commercial problems, go to market strategy and brand building. The track wants consumer insight translated into a business decision, not a campaign idea floating on its own.
    Pick it if
You have run a brand study, a pricing exercise or a distribution analysis and can show the numbers behind your instinct.

    Finance Track
    The brief
Business problems read through a finance lens. Expect to defend the commercial logic of your recommendation, its cost, its payback and the assumptions underneath both.
    Pick it if
You are comfortable building a simple model live and being asked why each input is what it is.

    Supply Chain Track
    The brief
Forecasting, planning, manufacturing and distribution for a beauty portfolio with thousands of SKUs and short shelf lives. Efficiency, resilience and sustainability sit at the centre.
    Pick it if
You can talk about service levels, fill rates and inventory turns without reaching for a textbook definition.

    Human Resources Track
    The brief
People strategy as a business lever. Talent, culture, capability building and the workplace of tomorrow, judged on whether your idea survives contact with a P&L.
    Pick it if
You can turn an engagement problem into a measurable intervention rather than a values statement.

    How the season actually runs

    1
    The filter
Video Submission Round, three minutes with every member on screen
Your team submits a three minute video pitch featuring all three members. It has to communicate the problem, the key insights, the solution approach and the expected business impact, while showing creativity, strategic thinking and presentation ability. Three minutes is roughly 420 spoken words. That is one problem statement, two insights, one recommendation and one number.
Script it to the second before you shoot anything. Most teams shoot first, discover they are at five minutes, and then cut the impact section because it sits at the end. Cut the context instead.
    2
    The individual screen
    Creative CV Submission
Shortlisted teams submit a creative CV in any format for every member, along with a standard resume in PDF. The team leader uploads for the whole team and each file is named after the member it belongs to. This is where a team round quietly becomes an individual evaluation, because the PPI is offered to a person, not a group.
Creative does not mean decorative. A one page visual CV that shows what you have shipped, in what role and with what result, beats an illustrated template with the same four bullet points everyone else has.
    3
    The one nobody prepares for
    Psychometric Assessment
Participants complete a psychometric assessment measuring behavioural competencies, aptitude and alignment with L'Oréal's values and culture. It is not a knowledge test and you cannot cram for it, but you can walk in having read what the company says it looks for, and you can avoid the two mistakes that sink people: answering as the person you think they want, and rushing.
Consistency is what these instruments score hardest. The same trait gets probed from four directions. Answer honestly and at a steady pace, and take it when you are rested rather than at one in the morning after a submission.
    4
    Where the PPI is decided
Campus Round, in front of the L'Oréal leadership panel
Finalist teams present their solutions to a L'Oréal leadership panel, judged on strategic thinking, innovation and business acumen. The listings are explicit that PPIs follow performance here. Everything before this stage exists to get you into this room.
Rehearse the questions, not the slides. Write down the six hardest questions your recommendation invites, assign one owner per question, and practise answering in under sixty seconds each.
    Worth noticing
There is no case document round anywhere in this format
Every other campus competition this season gives you a deck or a two pager to hide behind. The Edge does not. Your idea is judged on camera, your profile is judged on a CV, your temperament is judged by an assessment, and your reasoning is judged live. Teams that are strong on slides and weak on delivery will struggle here, so weight your preparation accordingly.

Seven things that separate a shortlist from a submission

    1
Build the team for the camera, not just for the analysis
All three members appear in the video. That is a stated requirement, which means the weakest speaker in your team is visible to the evaluator in round one. Do not solve this by giving one person forty seconds of filler. Give each member the section they genuinely own, and let them speak to it as the person who did the work.
    2
Open with the recommendation, not the industry
An evaluator watching a hundred videos decides in the first twenty seconds whether this one is serious. Beauty market size and category growth in the opening line signals that you have nothing yet. Lead with what you would do, then earn it with the insight behind it.
    3
Know the L'Oréal portfolio like an employee would
Four divisions, dozens of brands, and very different consumers behind each. Consumer Products, Luxe, Dermatological Beauty and Professional Products do not share a playbook. A recommendation that would be right for a mass shampoo brand and wrong for a dermatology brand tells the panel you researched the company for one evening.
    4
Put one honest number in the video
Expected business impact is written into the round description. It does not need to be a full model in three minutes. It needs one quantified outcome with the assumption behind it stated out loud, so the panel can test it later instead of wondering whether you thought about it at all.
    5
Treat production quality as table stakes, not as the pitch
Good light, a quiet room, a clean background and audio you recorded close to the speaker. That is the whole bar. Elaborate motion graphics on a thin idea reads worse than a plain video with a sharp argument, especially to a panel that markets beauty for a living and can spot polish covering nothing.
    6
Design the creative CV before the shortlist arrives
The window between the results and the CV deadline is short, and it lands in the middle of a term. Build your creative CV and clean PDF resume in the week you submit the video, so that stage costs you an hour rather than a weekend.
    7
Watch the Brandstorm Spotlight Session before you write a word
The May 2026 recording in the drive folder covers how L'Oréal evaluates student ideas, the language its juries use and the traps that repeat every year. Different competition, same evaluators, same instincts. An hour there changes what your first draft looks like.

The Edge and Brandstorm are not the same competition

Every year a group of first years assumes these are the same thing and treats one as practice for the other. They are not. The L'Oréal Edge is an India campus programme built around functional tracks, a video pitch and a campus round that feeds PPIs into a summer internship. Brandstorm is L'Oréal's global flagship innovation competition, launching later this year, where winning teams compete at the Global Finals in Paris on a fully sponsored trip.

The right move is to do both. The Edge puts you in front of India leadership this season with a real internship on the line. Brandstorm gives you a global stage a few months later, and the profile you build in the Edge is exactly the profile that makes a Brandstorm team credible.

    The honest read

First editions are the best editions to enter. There is no archive of past winning decks circulating on campus, no established playbook for the format and no cohort of second timers who did it last year. Everyone is guessing, which means preparation is worth more here than in season eight of anything.

The teams that convert will be the ones that script the three minutes properly, put a number on their impact and rehearse the campus round out loud. That is a fortnight of disciplined work for a shot at a summer internship at the largest beauty company in the world.
