HUL FinAce Season 10  ·  Finance Case Competition  ·  Team of 3

The cash is nice, but the ULIP interview is the real prize.

HUL FinAce is the finance case competition every first year MBA student at an eligible B-School should have on their radar, regardless of whether they specialize in finance. Season 10 comes with a ₹5 lakh prize pool, but the headline reward is not the winner's cheque. It is the Pre-Placement Interview for the Unilever Leadership Internship Programme, the ULIP summer internship process that feeds into one of India's most sought after corporate leadership tracks. If you are even mildly interested in corporate finance, treasury, FP&A or FMCG strategy, this is the competition that gets your foot inside the door.

    Why this matters
HUL uses FinAce as a talent pipeline, not just a contest. Semi-finalists earn a PPI for ULIP 2027 Summer Internship Process, and past participants have converted those interviews into summer internships and final PPOs at Hindustan Unilever. The cash rewards are great, but the career access is what justifies the effort.

₹5 lakhs in prizes, and a shot at ULIP

The prize structure for HUL FinAce Season 10 is straightforward and top heavy. The winner takes home ₹3,00,000, the runner-up takes ₹2,00,000, and both teams receive Pre-Placement Interviews. More importantly, semi-finalists also receive PPIs for the Unilever Leadership Internship Programme 2027 Summer Internship Process. That means you do not need to win the entire competition to change your summer placement trajectory.

ULIP is one of the most competitive summer internship tracks in the country. It spans functions across HUL including corporate finance, treasury, business finance, supply chain finance and commercial finance. A PPI from FinAce is effectively a fast pass into that process, which is otherwise fought over by hundreds of applicants from the best B-Schools in India.

You do not need to be a finance student to crack this
The biggest mistake non-finance students make is assuming FinAce is only for finance specializations. HUL cases usually sit at the intersection of finance, marketing, operations and strategy. A team with mixed skills often outperforms a pure finance team because the cases demand storytelling, consumer insight and commercial judgment, not just spreadsheet modelling.

FinAce has always been about the CFO quotient

HUL has run FinAce for nearly a decade, and the format has stayed remarkably consistent. Season 3 on Unstop asked teams to submit a three page written response to a case study launched at the start of the round. Season 7 and Season 8 retained the team-of-three structure and carried a prize pool of ₹5,00,000 along with pre-placement interviews. Season 8 was publicly positioned around unlocking the CFO quotient, bridging classroom finance theory with boardroom decision making.

Past finalists and semi-finalists frequently mention the competition on LinkedIn as a stepping stone into ULIP. Several FinAce top performers have gone on to join HUL through the Unilever Leadership Internship Programme and convert their summers into pre-placement offers. That pattern is why the semi-finalist PPI is arguably more valuable than the winner's cash prize.

    The pattern worth internalising

First, the cases are not pure finance problems. They are business problems where finance is the language of decision making. You will be asked to evaluate investment choices, pricing moves, working capital trade-offs and market entry decisions, but always in the context of HUL's brands and the Indian FMCG market.

Second, the jury expects numbers with narrative. Past editions have been judged by HUL and Unilever finance leadership including senior directors and CFO track executives. They reward teams that can explain what the numbers mean for the business, not teams that simply present more numbers.

The four stages you should plan for

Exact stage names and dates for Season 10 will be confirmed on the official Unstop page and in the digital launch session. Based on past editions, the competition follows a clear shape. Plan against it now and adjust when the official timeline drops.

    1
    Stage One
    Registration and digital launch
Teams register on Unstop and attend the official digital launch and Q&A session. This is where HUL introduces the theme, the case context and the evaluation criteria for the season.
Tip: treat the launch session like a case briefing, not a webinar. Ask one sharp question about evaluation criteria or the expected output format. The organizers remember engaged teams, and the answer often saves you from misformatting your submission.
    2
    Stage Two
    Case submission
Teams receive a business case and submit a structured response, typically a short deck or a written document with strict page limits. Past seasons have used three page write-ups and slide decks.
Tip: assign one person to own the financial model, one to own the recommendation narrative, and one to own the final polish. The teams that win are rarely the ones with the most complex model. They are the ones with the clearest recommendation and the cleanest story.
    3
    Stage Three
    Semi-final presentations
Shortlisted teams present live to HUL finance leaders. This is where the PPIs for ULIP are typically decided. Your ability to defend assumptions under questioning matters as much as the deck itself.
Tip: rehearse the Q&A, not just the pitch. Prepare clear answers for how you sized the market, why your numbers are reasonable, and what you would do if HUL gave you half the budget you asked for. The jury tests conviction, not just preparation.
    4
    Stage Four
    Grand finale
The top teams present to senior HUL and Unilever finance leadership. Winner and runner-up cash prizes are decided here, along with the final set of PPIs.
Tip: at the finale, every team is technically strong. Differentiation comes from poise, storytelling and the ability to link your recommendation back to HUL's strategic priorities. Know HUL's current portfolio, recent acquisitions and stated growth agenda before you walk in.

First years from eligible B-Schools, finance background optional

FinAce is open to first year MBA students from a select set of eligible campuses. The exact list changes by edition, so verify it on the official Unstop page before you register. What does not change is the standard. The teams that reach the semi-finals are usually a mix of finance enthusiasts, strategy students and marketing minds who can speak the language of return on investment.

If you are a non-finance student, this is one of the best competitions to prove you can think commercially. If you are a finance student, this is the competition where theoretical valuation and accounting knowledge gets tested against real FMCG decision making. Either way, the door it opens is worth the effort.

Six moves that get you to the semi-finals and beyond

    1
Build a three person team with complementary skills
The ideal FinAce team has one numbers person, one storyteller and one strong presenter. A team of three finance modellers often produces a great spreadsheet and a weak pitch. Balance beats brilliance in one dimension.
    2
Study HUL's actual business, not just finance theory
Read HUL's latest annual report, investor presentations and recent earnings calls. Know the major brands, the margin pressures, the rural versus urban split and the supply chain priorities. Cases are usually rooted in real HUL decisions.
    3
Make the recommendation impossible to miss
A strong FinAce submission has one clear answer on the first page. What should HUL do, why, and what is the financial impact? Everything else supports that answer. Juries do not hunt for your conclusion.
    4
Show sensitivity and risk, not just upside
HUL finance leaders are trained to question assumptions. Show what happens if your revenue estimate is 20 percent lower, if commodity costs rise, or if the rollout takes six months longer. Credibility comes from acknowledging uncertainty.
    5
Keep the model simple enough to explain
A complex model nobody understands is a liability in the presentation round. Build a model you can walk the jury through in under two minutes. If you cannot explain a formula in plain English, remove it.
    6
Use the digital launch to decode the theme
Season 8 was themed around the CFO quotient and driving business growth. Season 10 will have its own theme. Listen carefully during the launch session and align your submission language with it. Submissions that speak HUL's language feel more credible.
