Cipla Ascend Season 4 · Pharma & Healthcare · First Years Only
This is not just a case competition. The finale can test the AI agent you build in real time.
Cipla Ascend Season 4 is one of the largest pharma, healthcare, and life sciences case competitions for first year MBA students. It is also a direct route into Cipla's ALIVE Summer Internship Program through PPI shortlists. With a case theme centred on AI driven decisions in the cardiac market and a finale where your solution, and possibly your agent, is questioned live by Cipla senior leadership, the competition rewards teams that can combine clinical insight with analytical rigor.
Why this matters
Cipla Ascend is one of the few competitions where the case brief explicitly invites AI driven approaches and the finale may include live testing of the agent you propose. The reward pool goes up to ₹3 lakhs, but the real prize is a PPI for the ALIVE Summer Internship. If you are a first year MBA student at an eligible campus and you care about pharma, healthcare, or consulting, this is the competition to prioritise.

The case is expected to be AI forward
Public case material for Season 4 points toward an AI driven approach to identify and prioritise opportunities within the cardiac therapy market. Teams that treat this as a generic strategy case will miss the brief. You need to show how an AI agent or model can integrate market dynamics, external trends, and strategic investment decisions into a coherent recommendation.
Who can apply
Eligibility is narrow, and the campus list is fixed
Cipla Ascend Season 4 is open only to first year MBA students enrolled in the two year full-time flagship program at the following institutes. Part-time, distance learning, executive, and one year programs are not eligible.
Top private and specialized schools are included. Cross-specialisation teams are allowed, so pair a marketing mind with someone strong in analytics.
4
TISS Mumbai
Also eligible. Teams must have exactly two members from the same institute, and no student can be part of more than one team.
The journey
Seven stages from registration to the grand finale
Ascend is a multi-round competition. Each stage filters teams further, so treat every deadline as a scored checkpoint.
1
Round 1 - Executive Summary Submission
A 3-slide plan that shows your framing
Teams receive the case study after registration. The deliverable is a 3-slide PowerPoint excluding the cover slide. Avoid generic context setting on the pharma landscape. Get straight to the problem, your AI driven hypothesis, and the decision framework.
A quiz on the Grad Partners LinkedIn handle on 24 and 25 July. Six winners receive Cipla gift vouchers. This is an engagement activity and is not part of the competition rounds, but it helps you learn the company.
A YouTube Live session with Cipla leaders. Registered students can submit queries in advance. Use this to clarify expectations for the case and the agent demonstration.
Date: 5 Aug, 11:30 to 12:15 hrs (GMT).
4
Round 2 - Cipla Assessment
Mandatory for the top 50 teams
Shortlisted teams must complete a Cipla assessment. Both team members need to finish it. Submissions will not be considered if even one member fails to complete the assessment.
The top 5 teams receive guidance from the Cipla team to refine their solutions and prepare for the final pitch. This is where you move from a good deck to a defensible live presentation.
Window: 26 Aug, 03:30 to 12:30 hrs (GMT).
6
Final Submissions
Submit the full presentation
Finalist teams submit a detailed 7 to 10 slide presentation that showcases the work holistically to Cipla's senior leaders.
Finalist teams present their solution to Cipla's Senior Leadership Team. The agent you build may be tested during the finale. Be ready to explain your data sources, assumptions, model logic, and recommendations under pressure.
Date: 4 Sep, 03:30 to 12:30 hrs (GMT).
The case theme this season
Publicly available case material suggests the Season 4 brief asks for an AI driven approach to identify and prioritise opportunities within the cardiac market, integrating market dynamics and external trends into strategic investment decisions.
That means your submission needs to do three things: define the cardiac market opportunity clearly, show how an AI agent or model can prioritise options better than a manual analysis, and translate the output into a strategic recommendation Cipla can act on.
Submission rules
What Cipla actually wants in your deck
The guidelines are specific. Follow them exactly, because evaluators use them as a filter before they even read your insight.
1
Round 1 is 3 slides excluding the cover
Do not waste a slide on the macro pharma landscape. Start with the problem, move to your AI driven approach, and end with the decision recommendation.
2
Final presentations are 7 to 10 slides
Use the extra room to show your data sources, model logic, sensitivity analysis, and a clear implementation roadmap.
3
Mention external data sources in an appendix
Credibility matters in pharma. Cite market reports, clinical trends, and public datasets. Put the detailed sources in the appendix so the main deck stays clean.
4
File format and naming convention
Submit .ppt, .pptx, or .pdf under 5 MB. Name the file as LeaderFirstName_TeamName_InstituteName. Team leaders can change submissions before the deadline.
5
Do not share your deck publicly
Posting submissions on LinkedIn or other social platforms can lead to disqualification. Keep your work private until the competition concludes.
How to win
Five moves that separate finalists from the rest
1
Understand the cardiac therapy market deeply
Read about cardiac disease burden in India, key therapy segments, patient journeys, and Cipla's existing cardiac portfolio. Your recommendation must feel grounded in the market, not generic.
2
Design the AI agent as a decision tool, not a gimmick
Explain what data the agent ingests, how it prioritises opportunities, and why that prioritisation is better than traditional analysis. Judges care about logic, not buzzwords.
3
Prepare for live agent testing in the finale
If your agent is tested live, it will be judged on speed, accuracy, and explainability. Build something robust enough to handle follow-up questions from senior leaders.
4
Quantify wherever possible
Use market size, patient numbers, revenue potential, and risk adjusted returns. Even estimated numbers with transparent assumptions are stronger than pure qualitative arguments.
5
Practice the pitch as a conversation
The finale is not a deck recital. Anticipate questions on ethics, data privacy, regulatory constraints, and implementation cost. Rehearse with someone playing the sceptical CEO.
